YouTube will soon require labelling AI-generated content
YouTube video hosting will require the creators of uploaded videos to mark the content that was prepared using a neural network in order to combat false information, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the platform's notification
The innovations are expected to come in force in the coming months.
"We will require creators to disclose when they have created altered or synthetic content that is realistic, including using AI tools,” the source said.
Such content includes AI-generated videos that realistically depicts an event that never happened, or content showing someone saying or doing something they did not actually do. The most careful attention is planned to be paid to videos on acute topics – such as modern conflicts, some healthcare-related issues, election campaigns, as well as any content that is related to officials.
It is also noted that such materials can be removed if they do not comply with the YouTube rules.
Different labels can be used to mark AI-generated content. When creators upload content, they will be asked to notify that it contains realistic altered or synthetic material. Those who repeatedly violate the labelling rule may face the removal of their content from the platform, as well as other types of restrictions.
