Turkish President presented ZUBR team with state award for assistance in eliminating earthquake consequences

A ceremony was held in the Republic of Türkiye to honour the international search and rescue teams which took part in the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred on Turkish land in February 2023 – as reported by the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry’s press service. Among the award recipients is the Republican Special Response Team ZUBR, which was presented by its Chief Igor Zarembo, who received a state award from the hands of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

It should be recalled that on behalf of the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, sixty-four employees of the Republican Special Response Team ZUBR, together with the canine unit, special equipment and rescue tools, left as quickly as possible for the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş, which suffered from a series of earthquakes.

In total, during the ZUBR search and rescue operations, fifty-one people were pulled out from under the rubble, six of whom miraculously survived.

Moreover, the Belarusian side provided humanitarian assistance to Turkish residents affected by the earthquake. Tents, blankets, medicines, personal hygiene products, children’s clothes, sleeping bags, etc., were sent to Türkiye, accompanied by employees of the Emergencies Ministry, on the plane of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus.
