The Centre noted that ‘immediate health needs in the wake of the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria are mainly related to injuries and disruptions in the health system, however, infectious disease threats may be of concern for the next two to four weeks’.

“In the coming weeks, there is a high likelihood of a surge in cholera cases in the affected areas,” the Centre said in a statement.

Specialists also allow the development of other diseases in the camps for the victims, such as hepatitis A and rotavirus.

The spread of disease can be triggered by limited access to clean water, inadequate sanitation, and inadequate refrigeration and food preparation.
