In Scotland, almost all primary schools were forced to close due to a teachers’ strike. The protesters are demanding an increase in wages, as the country is experiencing the highest inflation in 40 years, the BBC reports.

It is noted that such strikes of teachers in Scotland are not taking place for the first time, they were organised last year as well. Similar teacher strikes are possible in England and Wales in the coming weeks.

The protesting teachers demand a 10 percent salary increase in line with inflation. At the same time, the authorities are ready to offer a salary increase of only 5 percent. Therefore, negotiations between the Scottish government and trade unions are continuing.

It is noted that the highest inflation in the UK in 40 years is forcing medics, railway workers, employees of border control services, postmen, bus drivers, driving examiners, teachers and representatives of a number of other professions to go on strike, demanding an increase in wages.
