Institute’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman explained, “Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family and is inspired by the red colour of cochineal [a type of insect from which a substance is extracted to obtain the red dye carmine], one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family and one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.”

Experts characterise the colour of the coming year as ‘powerful, brave and inspiring’.

“This is a new red that emits optimism and joy, encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint,” the company said in a press release.

Pantone colour is determined based on trend analysis. To find it, experts explore the entertainment and film industries, art collections and emerging artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as the new trend of the entire planet and socio-economic conditions.

The selected tone can be used in the development of products in different industries: fashion, interior design, graphic or industrial.
