The time has chosen us, and everything necessary must be done to make the country stand its ground – as noted by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, while making personnel decisions on the power vertical heads today
The Head of State noted that he had set the task to solve the related issues promptly, since almost all top managers will be among the Belarusian People’s Congress delegates. “That's why I urged the governors and the President Administration on – so that we could solve today the remaining personnel problems. You will have to participate in the development of global, strategic decisions of our state, which the Belarusian People's Congress will be engaged into. With this in view, we will talk seriously today about certain problems, and all our citizens should get aware of the problems that we face now and that we will have to solve in the near future,” Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed those present.
The Head of State pointed out that the appointed persons will have to lead large organisations and many employees. “Your area of responsibility includes certain territories. Please do not forget that you are presidents in these territories, in cities, locations and district centres. Your job will not be easy. This year is a political one, and you know this very well. There will be many issues to settle,” he said.
The President noted that special attention should be paid to agriculture at present, “The weather is quite good, but there has been much rain recently – flooding [the fields] probably too much. This suggests that we need to prepare for a rainless summer. We may probably have not enough rains in May and June, when they are actually needed – so we should get prepared for that. We must monitor the situation daily, virtually every hour and every minute – and take measures. City residents should also join and help. This year we need not just to harvest enough for 2025, but also to make a reserve for the future.”
The President addressed Igor Burmistrov, whose candidacy had been agreed upon for the position of Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee (previously, he worked as Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops), “I know that you are personally interested in this [appointment]. This situation is very interesting to me, because military people finish their military service at a fairly young age, and they feel uncomfortable to simply stay at home afterwards. I am convinced that military people will cope with civilian work as well.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the fact that the Novopolotsk Region is not a simple one, noting, “I really expect you to get up to speed and take everything related to the functioning of enterprises and people under control, and I hope to hear only good reviews of your work. I will definitely visit Novopolotsk and look at how this personnel appointment will work out.”
The Head of State added that there are many problems in the Gomel Region, especially in the field of agriculture. There are similar issues in the Mogilev Region. The President also noted that he was closely monitoring Kostyukovichi and some other eastern territories of this region, “They are implementing a certain plan of mine for the development of the east of the Mogilev Region, which was also affected by the Chernobyl disaster. It is desirable that this area be exemplary.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko summed up, “Well, dear, there is plenty of work. There will be no less of it, and the situation will not be easier for us. It will be more difficult, maybe, than it is now. As people say, the time has chosen us; we did not choose it. Therefore, we need to endure, meet a challenge and do everything necessary to make the country stand its ground. As I say, give the economy. If you provide the economy, then I am ready to oversee the remaining issues.”
