The Head of State agreed has approved the appointment of Deputy Industry Minister Dmitry Kharitonchik to the position of Director General of Atlant JSC – Director of the Minsk Refrigerator Plant.

Speaking about Atlant’s work, the Belarusian leader asked, “Things are not so good at Atlant, are they?”

Dmitry Kharitonchik said that there was a drop in production after growth recorded in 2021-2022. At the same time, he assured, that we know now how to compete with imports in our main export market: Russia.

“This refers to both Russian and Belarusian markets. Of course, we need to protect markets, we need to do everything so that we can sell our goods,” the President emphasised. He also asked Dmitry Kharitonchik whether it was his own desire to move to a new position.

The new head of Atlant replied that this was his conscious choice, adding that he had an experience of working at an industrial enterprise for about 12 years, including at BELAZ.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that there are problems at Atlant and set the task ‘to make this enterprise a real enterprise’.

The Head of State particularly underlined that Belarusian household appliances should sell well, including on the domestic market. Dmitry Kharitonchik assured that Belarusian refrigerators and washing machines have proven themselves to be of good quality, but it is necessary to seriously work on reducing the cost of production, enabling the company to compete more successfully with imported rivals.

The Belarusian leader also asked where the former Director General of Atlant, Dmitry Sokolovsky, is moving. The President was informed that he would remain in the industrial complex system.

“From today, you are responsible for the plant. Moreover, having worked in the ministry, you are well aware of what a director is and what he is responsible for,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
