Lukashenko: time requires each of us to think not only about ourselves, but also about the country

Time today requires each of us to think not only about ourselves, but also about the country – as stated by the President of Belarus at the New Year’s Eve Ball for youth, which takes place in the Palace of Independence

Addressing the participants of the celebration, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Palace of Independence is open to everyone who seeks to honestly and conscientiously serve their Fatherland and people, “The history of modern Belarus is being created here, strategically important decisions are being made here. People who are not afraid to take responsibility for the fate of the country participate in their discussion. Our today’s holiday is also a page of history, the history of our Motherland.”

The President drew attention to the fact that cadets are present at the ball and these would-be officers can already tell about their duty to the Fatherland, about patriotism, “It’s in their blood, since they have chosen such a noble profession: to defend their Motherland. Time today requires each of us to think not only about ourselves, but also about the country, no matter how pathetic it may sound. Regardless of whether we wear shoulder straps or not, whether we work in a state institution or paint pictures.”

On the eve of the New Year, the President wished youngsters to preserve all the best that is in our life, “Be cool-headed, study different views on life, different opinions, but draw your own conclusions. Move towards your goals quickly, but do not forget to look back sometimes. In the centuries-old history of the Belarusian land, you will always find wise advice that will help you make the correct decisions in your destiny, in the destiny of Belarus.”

The President stressed that the current event is a page in the life of our Motherland, “But this is also a page in your life. Let me just say: very little time will pass, either this year or next year, in three to five years, passing by this majestic building and leading a baby next to you by the hand, you will look back at this building and say: ‘I was here: happy, beautiful and aspiring to the future’. Afterwards you will come home and show a photo from this majestic holiday. Everyone will leave this Palace of Independence with the most joyful gift: a photograph from this event. This is how everyone’s personal history is written. And I want today’s event to be a bright page in the history of your life. Therefore, always be healthy and happy! May your relatives and loved ones be also healthy, and may their eyes shine with joy, looking at you. Happy holiday, Happy New Year, dear friends! All the best to you in your life!”
