Lukashenko set tasks for foreign markets: implementation of investment projects abroad

18 July, 12:33

Next week, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko will convene a meeting to review the progress of major investment projects abroad. On July 18th, Dmitry Krutoi, the Head of the President Administration, shared details of his report to the Head of State with journalists, sb.by reports.

Mr. Krutoi reminded that the President recently completed an extensive foreign trip, visiting several countries in East and Southeast Asia, making the meeting’s topic particularly relevant. Additionally, Belarus is actively working with African countries. However, according to the Head of the Belarus President Administration, Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that the pace of implementing investment projects in these markets is somewhat unsatisfactory.

“Now is an ideal time to establish a strong presence in the markets of these countries. We often cite Indonesia as an example: it is one of the top four most populous countries and has a huge demand for various products. Yet, simple trade is no longer enough today. To secure a stable and long-term foothold in these markets, we need joint investment projects specifically in these regions,” Mr. Krutoi stated.

This primarily involves creating assembly manufacturing facilities. The Head of the Belarus President Administration pointed out that Aleksandr Lukashenko is guiding industrialists ‘to appropriately divide the value-added chain so that joint products made in Indonesia, China, Uzbekistan, or African countries can qualify for local subsidy programmes’.

“This responsibility lies with our industrial sector, agro-industrial sector, and other industries involved in these projects. Therefore, the President will review reports from officials responsible for each region and responsible for the main investment projects. I believe this will be a very timely and productive discussion, focusing specifically on investment and our overseas ventures,” Mr. Krutoi emphasised.
