On July 28th, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko received a report from Aleksandr Rogozhnik, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, BelTA reports
The discussion focused on the situation in the Vitebsk Region, including the agricultural sector. The Head of State asked about the progress of ongoing events and any challenges faced. The topic of employing citizens from Uzbekistan in the region was also addressed separately.
“The frontline — fortunately a peaceful one — currently passes through the Vitebsk Region. This is evident in the weather and other factors... and you yourself are right in the middle of it,” the President said.
“What is the situation in the Vitebsk Region? How are things developing, and what problems are present?” Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined the key questions.
The President also asked about Uzbek citizens who arrived in Belarus to work in the agro-industrial sector of the Vitebsk Region, ‘including the Uzbeks, because they primarily came to you’, “However, keep in mind one thing: milk and meat production come first. If there is a shortage of workers, that’s acceptable. Their salary is the third priority,” the Head of State emphasised.
Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted that co-operation between Belarus and Uzbekistan in this areas based on mutual interest. This topic was discussed during recent talks between the two countries’ leaders. Belarus, possessing a developed agro-industrial sector, substantial food production, and sufficient agricultural land, is ready to liaise with Uzbekistan to help supply its market with food products.
“They have requested products, and we are interested in this. They are willing to invest in agriculture because investment is essential. Without dairy complexes and tractors, you cannot produce meat and milk. We are ready to produce what is needed here — not only in the Vitebsk Region but also in the Mogilev, Gomel, and Grodno regions. However, this should be done in a targeted manner,” the Belarusian leader pointed out.
