Addressing Natalya Kochanova, the Head of State said, “You have a set of problems that will need to be monitored during the preparation and conduct of these elections. We will discuss them more specifically at tomorrow’s meeting with representatives of the parties, which have been registered and which – as I understand it – intend to participate in the parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, what is the situation, how do people, governors work at the local level? We have openly said that we will participate in these elections in every possible way; I mean the vertical of power. It is a very important campaign in Belarus, and there will be no more important political campaign next year. The formation of the Belarusian People's Congress will follow then, in addition to the election of its delegates. What is your view on the development of the situation? I ask you not to step aside this topic and – as far as possible – help and support the Central Election Commission, acting together with the President Administration and the Lower House of Parliament.”

During the meeting, personnel issues were also touched upon. The Head of State expressed the wish that the Council of the Republic would have a ‘concentrated opinion’ on this matter, and asked how things are at the moment.

Another topic on the agenda was the development of the Belarusian capital. Natalya Kochanova is the authorised representative of the President in Minsk, and therefore Aleksandr Lukashenko asked, “I am interested in the issues of providing the population, first of all, with the necessities – [such as] food, clothing, footwear, and so on. How do Minsk residents feel?”

The Belarusian leader added that Natalya Kochanova and senators in general travel a lot around the country, and therefore he reminded, “You promised me that you would concentrate on what is happening in Belarus and report back if necessary. I would like to hear your position in this regard.”
