Lukashenko: finding new opportunities for transshipment of export cargoes is Belarus’ strategic task

Belarus’s strategic task is to find new opportunities for transshipment of export goods – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region of the Russian Federation, Alexander Tsybulsky

Addressing the Russian guest, the Head of State noted, “We know the specifics of Arkhangelsk's port infrastructure. It is not intended for our main export cargo: potash fertilisers. You are specialising in container [shipment] and general cargo. In this regard, you may be of interest to our manufacturers of timber and metal products, but the competition in this matter is high, including in the north-west. The economy of transportation comes first, and we are ready to work together.”

The President added that Arkhangelsk is traditionally a key destination in transshipment towards the North, “Your region is a hub for transshipment of goods, in particular, construction materials for large mining facilities in the Arctic zone. In addition, you have plans to develop the Arkhangelsk transport hub in the near future for its broader involvement in the Northern Sea Route development. We could also be useful to each other in this regard.”
