The Pope’s work has become a testimony to his deep faith, wisdom and humanism,” the message of condolence said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed his conviction that for all those who had the honour of meeting His Holiness, he will forever remain an example of courage, dignity and fidelity to Christian ideals.

“I fondly remember the official visit to the Vatican and the thoughts that Francis and I exchanged in cordial letters. I am grateful for his work to strengthen mutually respectful relations between Belarus and the Holy See. Please accept, Your Eminence, my sincere condolences and words of support in connection with this grave loss,” the Head of State said in his message.
