Lukashenko demands non-standard decisions in the development of pig breeding

During today’s meeting on the development of pig breeding, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, noted that he considers it necessary to introduce non-standard decisions in the industry. The Belarusian Head of State stressed that in order to correct the situation, it’s primarily require to observe elementary measures of technological and labour discipline, to intensify selection and breeding work, and to improve compound feed formulas.

“Scientists should also be more active and provide the necessary assistance. The Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation (BNBC) is operating on the country’s territory able to do whatever you want according to your needs. Negotiate and take the best compound feed,” the President guided the officials.

As far as the modernisation of pig breeding complexes is concerned, almost 70 percent of them were built more than two decades ago.

“There should be a definite programme for bringing these complexes in order. What is not suitable for raising pigs must be demolished. The facilities are worn out, being morally and physically obsolete,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

The President recalled that at one time in some farms he ordered the construction of medium-sized complexes for 24,000 cattle, “We successfully built them, and they proved well. We studied from Western Europe. What’s stopping us from continuing this work? Let’s think about a centralised programme for the reconstruction of our pig farms and the construction of new facilities is a manner similar to our dairy complexes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

At the same time, the President underlined that in case of negligent, irresponsible attitude, and non-observance of elementary norms, no modernisation will help, “Therefore, today it’s necessary to make decisions that ensure the sustainable development of the pig industry. As I see it, non-standard but professional decisions are needed here. I hope that after today’s conversation (and we update the topic, the President should not be engaged in pig raising), the Government and the governors will decide what and how to do. Maybe the new Minister of Agriculture and Food will offer us something.”
