Light industry products conquering the world

From January-June 2021, Bellegprom's exports exceeded 65 percent, with Belarusian products sold to more than 50 countries – as informed by Tatiana Lugina, the Chair of Bellegprom Concern

The most popular products among importers are linen fabrics, corset and hosiery products, carpets, synthetic yarn, underwear, shoes with genuine leather uppers, cotonised flax fibre, and much more.

The pandemic resulted in closed borders, a drop in domestic demand and an increase in stocks but world markets are now happily reviving. “We’ve joined new markets: Nepal, Chile, Uruguay and Switzerland. Of course, we have a special format of relations with Russia, while our EAEU and CIS partners enjoy a priority attention in foreign economic activities. A single customs space, duty-free trade, well-established logistics and partnership relations, similarity of tastes and a positive image of Belarusian goods create favourable conditions for co-operation,” Ms. Lugina noted.

China is a key partner in the Asian region. From January-June 2021, Bellegprom enterprises exported $594,300 of products to China. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey also have a high potential and, while developing new niches of the world market, the countries of Latin America and the Middle East deserve special attention.

According to Ms. Lugina, light industry plays an important role in ensuring the country’s economic and strategic security, “We feel no unsolvable difficulties due to the sanctions pressure. Some minor issues related to the supply of chemicals for the textile industry have emerged. However, this can be solved: the world is big and our partners in India, China and Turkey can offer an excellent alternative now. We are actively working in this direction. After the pandemic, markets have become very mobile, and the customer interest – dynamic. Accordingly, we need to learn how to quickly navigate the situation so that to work effectively, especially abroad.”
