Rail freight traffic along the North-South international transport corridor increased by 4 percent in January-July this year, one of the reasons for that was an increase in transit from Belarus, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian Railway’s press service
As informed, 6.7 million tonnes of cargo were transported along the North-South international transport corridor, including 600,000 tonnes of cargo shipped in the Iranian destination (an increase of 1.5 times) in January-July 2026. The main increase in the North-South corridor was recorded on the trans-Caspian route: cargo transportation volumes increased by almost a third (29.2 percent). Transit shipments of goods between Belarus and Afghanistan, as well as exports of Russian grain, which increased against the background of high yields in the country and competitive prices, made a significant contribution to the positive dynamics.
The North-South international transport corridor is a 7,200km multimodal route, which connects the countries of Europe and the Baltic States, Russia and Belarus with the states of the Persian Gulf, Iran, India and South Asia. The corridor reduces cargo delivery time by half compared to the sea route through the Suez Canal.
