Ethiopia interested in co-operation with Minsk Tractor Plant

Minsk Tractor Plant is ready to resume deliveries of its BELARUS tractors to Ethiopia, which is interested in buying Belarusian-made agricultural machinery. As reported by tractor.bel, the issue was discussed at a recent meeting of MTZ General Director Vitaly Vovk with a delegation from Ethiopia headed by renowned businessman Tadiwos Belete.

"The President of Belarus pays special attention to co-operation with the African continent, and we are interested in intensifying our liaisons,” Mr. Vovk said at the meeting. “I suggest going step by step, but at a good pace. For our part, we are ready to do everything possible to resume deliveries of our BELARUS machinery to Ethiopia as soon as possible.”

In turn, Mr. Belete noted that 80 percent of the Ethiopian population is engaged in agriculture, but the machinery is not always used. “I propose to create a working group that would start working productively in the direction we have set. We are really interested in new Belarusian tractors starting to work on our Ethiopian land – as they do, for example, in Zimbabwe. I hope that this meeting will be the key to our further productive work,” he said.

As informed by the Belarusian company, the first deliveries of its tractors to Ethiopia took place in the 1960s, and about 5.5 thousand units of equipment have been delivered to this country by now.

Minsk Tractor Plant JSC is among the global agricultural machinery industry leaders. The company was founded on May 29th, 1946, and it currently produces tractors, utility vehicles, equipment for winter sports, universal chassis, forestry machines, etc. About 16 thousand people are employed. Minsk Tractor Plant is the management company of MTZ-HOLDING, which was registered on August 1st, 2014. In addition to the parent enterprise, the holding structure includes 13 open joint stock companies.
