"Sending our first astronaut into space was our first step to train a new generation. I hope we will see our own rocket in space. God willing, we will launch spacecraft production in the coming years," the Turkish leader said.

In January, Turkiye sent its first astronaut, Alper Gezeravci, to the International Space Station, who is soon to return to Earth.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan also announced plans to build a second Turkish aircraft carrier. "When we came to power [in 2002], Turkiye’s share in its own defence industry was only 20 percent. We have now reached the 80 percent security level and intend to reach 100 percent. Those are challenged who are weak [militarily]. We will build our second aircraft carrier at our own shipyard," he said.

In April 2023, the Turkish Navy received the Anadolu landing ship, which can accommodate attack drones. It is called the first Turkish aircraft carrier in Ankara. In January, the Executive Committee of the Turkish Defence Industry decided to build new types of ships for the Navy, including aircraft carriers.
