Belarus is fully complying with its obligations under the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management – as noted at the Eighth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention, held in Vienna from March 17th-28th, sb.by reports with reference to the Energy Ministry
Belarus presented a national report outlining the main policy directions in the area of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, as well as measures taken and progress made in implementing the proposals of the previous meeting.
“The country has fulfilled all key tasks during the reporting period, and the main results of the work carried out to develop the legislative and regulatory framework, to establish a radioactive waste management system and its sci-tech support, to improve the nuclear and radiation safety infrastructure and its components and to strengthen human resources are presented. Particular attention was paid to the functionality and tasks of the national operator for radioactive management established in the country – the Belarusian Organisation for Radioactive Waste Management – as well as to the stages of the planned project on the construction of the republican radioactive waste disposal facility,” the Energy Ministry said.
Based on the results of the defence, it was noted that the Republic of Belarus reflected all relevant aspects in the presentation of the report and provided comprehensive answers to the questions raised.
