Criminal case opened over replacement of Belarus’ flag in Buchenwald

The Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus has opened a criminal case over the fact of inciting national enmity, BelTA reports with reference to the Office’s PR Department

As follows from the case file, on April 10th, an unidentified person publicly removed Belarus’ national flag on the territory of the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial complex (Germany), placing a white-red-white canvas instead.

The Prosecutor General's Office stressed that such actions are clearly cynical in nature, they humiliate Belarusians’ honour and dignity. It added, “It is also a mockery of the memory of the millions of those who died on the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War. On this occasion, the Prosecutor General's Office will make a statement.”

Illegal actions are qualified under Part 2 of Article 130 of Belarus’ Criminal Code.

The criminal case has been sent to the Investigative Committee of Belarus for preliminary investigation.
