Brazilian President: UN Security Council needs to be reformed

It is necessary to reform the UN Security Council eighty years after its formation – as stated by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in his talk with Corriere della Sera

According to the politician, a lot has changed over the past 80 years, and countries need a larger and more representative Council, with voices from Latin America and Africa, to really contribute to peace and security.

"We believe that a multipolar world is better than unipolar domination or bipolar dispute. The creation of different networks, different agreements between countries can help balance conflicting trends and tensions," Luis Inacio Lula da Silva said.

The President of Brazil also shared his view on the upcoming BRICS summit, scheduled to be held on August 22nd in South Africa. As he noted, this event is important for everyone, “This coalition of emerging economies has demonstrated the importance of including diverse opinions in the global discussion.”
