Belcosmos Corporation established at Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus approved the regulation on the establishment of the Research and Production Corporation Belcosmos. This decision was made at a session of the Bureau of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus – as reported by the NAS press service.

The cluster will be headed by academician Vladimir Gusakov, the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The corporation was established to implement and develop promising projects of its members in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. The cluster includes organisations of the National Academy of Sciences: the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus, Geoinformation Systems unitary enterprise, the Research and Development Centre for Multifunctional Unmanned Complexes of NAS of Belarus, as well as organisations with which the NAS of Belarus liaises. These are the Aviation Technologies and Systems Chinese-Belarusian joint venture and KB Unmanned Helicopters LLC. The head organisation of the cluster is the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

“Among the tasks that the Research and Production Corporation Belcosmos will solve are the development of a policy and strategy for Belarus’ development in the space sector; the development of proposals for the formation of programmes (of the Union State, the CIS, the EAEU), state programmes and projects in the space sector, as well as a set of measures for their implementation; the conduct of fundamental scientific research in the space sphere; the implementation of research activities in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes; and the development by the participants of a new competitive aerospace technology,” the NAS press service reported.

The corporation will also contribute to the efficient implementation of projects aimed at increasing the competitiveness of goods (works, services) of the corporation’s participants; provide methodological, information and consulting, scientific and educational support for the functioning of the corporation; promote the introduction of the developments of the Belcosmos participants, including advanced production, engineering and management technologies, the latest equipment, into the economy and increase the efficiency of interaction between science and production; develop mechanisms for the commercialisation of the results of scientific and sci-tech activities of the members of the Belcosmos Corporation; and implement promising forms of international sci-tech interaction, etc.

Co-ordination of activities to implement the decision of the Bureau of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is entrusted to the Space Agency of the National Academy of Sciences.
