Belarus’ modern pioneer movement preserved patriotism-based spirit and traditions

The largest children's organisation in the country – the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organisation (BRPO) – is celebrating its birthday today, BelTA reports

Pioneers and Octobrists have gathered in Minsk today to take part in the main festive events of 2022. Boys and girls visited the Belarusian State Great Patriotic War History Museum and attended an award ceremony for the winners of the Timurovtsy.by and Polesie Robinsons projects.

"[We are celebrating] 32nd anniversary of the modern pioneer movement. Importantly, we have preserved its spirit, traditions and foundations for educating a patriot-citizen, but using new and interesting forms of work," Aleksandra Goncharova, the Chairperson of the BRPO Central Council, said.

Activists of the pioneer movement launched a new campaign: I am a Patriot. The event is dedicated to National Unity Day, and its participants will be able to try on a thematic online mask and get into a general collage of the organisation, which will be posted on social networks and on the BRPO official website on September 17th. “Those who support us, please tag our BRPO.by account and join us," Ms. Goncharova added.

Children also laid flowers at the Minsk – Hero-City Monument and honoured the heroes’ memory.

These days, ceremonies are held countrywide for children to solemnly join the pioneer movement.
