Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus named WTA Player of the Year

Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has been recognised as the Player of the Year by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), with the relevant information released by the WTA press service

Aryna Sabalenka was chosen over other contenders including Poland’s Iga Swiatek, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, and Americans Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. Ultimately, the world number one earned the top honour.

This year, Aryna Sabalenka won four titles, dominating major tournaments in Brisbane, Miami, Madrid and the US Open. She also came close to winning several other trophies. Throughout the season, the Belarusian player competed in 75 matches, recording 63 victories and 12 defeats.

Having won 21 WTA singles titles, Aryna Sabalenka has been named Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The Czech player Katerina Siniakova and American Taylor Townsend were honoured as Doubles Team of the Year. Amanda Anisimova received the Most Improved Player of the Year award, Swiss player Belinda Bencic was recognised as Comeback Player of the Year, and Canadian Victoria Mboko was named Newcomer of the Year.
