Ambassador: trade, agriculture, medicine among Serbia’s interests in Brest Region of Belarus

The visit of Ilina Vukajlovic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Belarus, to Brest has contributed to the restart of practical contacts between Serbia and the Brest Region, with focus on industry, the agricultural sector, medicine and the general development of contacts that, according to the diplomat, have noticeably weakened after the pandemic period

During the conversation, Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik emphasised his personal connection with Serbia, “I once toured your country on a bicycle, and I know Serbia well. I want to say that we are very close.” His remark actually set the tone for the meeting: it was not about ‘declarations’, but about trust and willingness to translate the sympathy of the two peoples into concrete projects.

Ilina Vukajlovic, in turn, openly spoke of her interest in the economic aspect of co-operation and stated that she was already planning a second visit to the region, “I would like to learn more about your enterprises. The Brest Region has the well-developed agriculture and strong industrial base, and this creates the basis for expanding trade relations and possible partnerships, where Belarusian competencies and production capabilities enjoy demand. In Belgrade, the Brest Region is perceived as a territory with a strong industrial base and potential for co-operation.”

In her talk with journalists later, the diplomat named the areas of mutual interests: these are trade, joint ventures, exchange of experience, and medicine. “We are ready to help strengthen ties between our people and businesses, and to gradually restore contacts that were actively developing prior to the coronavirus times. The pandemic has changed a lot. It influenced the logistics and direct communications, so systematic work is needed now to restore the previous intensity of interaction,” Ilina Vukajlovic said.
