At the Berlin exhibition

According to the words of Vladimir Adamushko, Director of the Department on Archives and Record Management of the Ministry of Justice, and one of the organisers of the exhibition, a lot of the photos and documents are unique. He is ready to talk about every stand for a long time and in minute detail, to tell how difficult it was to find the commendation lists of the Heroes of the Soviet Union submitted to the high nomination for ‘Bagration’ operation on Belarus’ liberation, to talk about the fact that they decided to dedicate one stand to women in the war — explaining how they fought side by side with the men, how they lived during the war and how they have survived the unimaginable horrors that fell upon them.

The Germans remember the war, though these memoires are obviously painful for them. At the opening of the exhibition, I met Colonel Konrad Freytag, the former Press Secretary of the Major NATO Command. He had been retired for a long time, and now the search for graves of Germans fallen during the Second World War is one of the main actions of his life. He has been to Belarus several times, and talks about Belarusians with enthusiasm and about his mission with sorrow. There is co-operation, but the main thought which he expresses, looking at the exponents of the Berlin’s exhibition is ‘Never more!’ And we agree.
