Belarusian Belintersat-1 telecom satellite launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre

The satellite, with a life of 15 years, is designed to transmit television and radio signals, as well as to ensure Internet access. Belintersat-1 was designed and built by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. The car-sized satellite weighs more than 5.2 tonnes and is equipped with a solar battery with 22-metre wings.



The project is export-oriented and is designed for maximum sales of the satellite’s resources to consumers. The latter will be also offered to use the satellite to develop their own corporate communications networks.

The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, sent a telegram of greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion of the successful launch of the Belintersat-1 satellite from the Xichang spaceport. The Head of State stressed that this is an important event and the result of many-year comprehensive strategic co-operation between the two countries. “Launched by the Chinese carrier rocket, the satellite has become a key element of the national system of satellite communication and broadcasting of the Republic of Belarus,” noted Mr. Lukashenko. “The project is highly innovative, boasting high economic, social and political significance for our country.”

The President of China, Xi Jinping, also sent a telegram of greetings to the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, on the occasion of the successful joint launch of the Belintersat-1 satellite, noting that the launch of the satellite is an important result of the Belarusian-Chinese interaction in the sphere of space exploration.

The Chinese President assured that China will continue take joint effort aimed to strengthen innovation collaboration while continuously advancing the Belarusian-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership relationships for the benefit of two countries.
