Lukashenko: it’s better to calmly engage in the economy than to fight

As stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his working trip to the Grodno Region today, it is better to calmly, quietly engage in the economic affairs than to fight. He added that – to avoid a war – it is necessary to prepare for it.

“I often say: it is better to work on the land than to fight. Fighting is a disaster. Do you think these guys – who are present here in the uniform – will fight? No, they will command us, and we – the whole nation – will fight.”

The Head of State drew attention to the example of the southern neighbours, “Are only generals, colonels and lieutenants fighting in Ukraine? No. They are engaged into organisational issues, because they understand the process. All the others, the whole country are fighting, and there is no other way out.”

The President urged, “Therefore, let’s better calmly, quietly engage in the economic affairs. Well, it is difficult, it is not easy – but it is much easier than fighting, because, putting aside the fact that it is difficult [at the front], people are shot there. Therefore, I am strongly against war. God forbid to fight… In order not to fight, we must prepare for war every day – and we are doing this now.”

At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted the progress in the training of troops, “I see that, over the past year or two, our army has changed, and it continues to undergo changes.”

The Belarusian leader recalled that he had earlier instructed to focus on the development of drones, counter-battery and electronic warfare. As the experience of modern wars shows, all these are integral elements of the successful combat activity. “We have made progress in this direction. Our enterprises specialising in electronic warfare have been preserved, and good equipment is produced there,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
