The President noted that the increase in livestock production in 2023 was registered in all regions (104.5 percent), “Dairy farming is practically the only stable source of daily cash flow. Last year, more than 8 million tonnes of milk were produced – 6 percent more than in 2022. Actually, that growth was mainly due to the Brest, Grodno and Minsk regions.”

As noted by the Head of State, the productivity of the dairy herd has increased by 6 percent countrywide, but the level of 6,000kg of milk per cow has not been achieved so far: it stands at 5,854kg. The figure was supposed to be registered by 2020, with the further growth. Aleksandr Lukashenko commented, “Of course, many farms have accumulated good experience in intensifying dairy production, and Grodno, Berestovitsa, Nesvizh districts have become the leaders in productivity of the dairy herd (9,000kg of milk per cow). It is gratifying that there are indisputable leaders where up to 12-13 thousand kilograms of milk are produced. However, the average milk yield per cow stood at less than 3,000 kilograms in every fifth organisation. These are mostly farms situated in the east of the country. In some farms, for example, Byvalki (Loyev District, Gomel Region), the average milk yield stood at 1,199 kilograms, in Dobrost (Krichev District, Mogilev Region) – 1,289 kilograms. That was almost three litres a day. As I said before, these are not cows, since a good goat gives more than four litres of milk per day. It seems that it is time to think about the remuneration system for the heads of agricultural organisations exclusively on the basis of the performance of their farms. Minimum wages should be paid if no result is demonstrated. With this in mind, I instruct the Government, regional and district executive committees to study in detail the situation at farms that demonstrate low productivity. All necessary measures should be taken to improve the overall performance of these organisations.”
