Lukashenko: additional personnel retention system should be operational at each farm

The personnel shortage is a system-forming problem of the industry – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting on rural development and improving the agricultural sector efficiency

As the Head of State noted, the shortage of senior personnel and workers stands at about 10 percent now, veterinarians and animal technicians – at 15. “Of course, we are doing a lot to attract young people to the agricultural sector. Universities and colleges allocate target quotas and train specialists of all possible profiles and levels. They are provided with preferential loans and extra payments, as well as affordable housing. How many of them eventually gain a foothold in the workplace? As far as I am reported, no more than half of the young specialists do. Meanwhile, the requirements for obligatory employment after graduation are tough enough: five years are the must. This means the issue is in the working conditions, a low quality of the rural environment, self-realisation, and salaries.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko believes it is impossible to solve the personnel problem without creating proper living conditions in rural areas. “These are medical care, transport, trade and consumer services. After all, there are strong model farms in the country, which are an example to follow. They develop themselves and contribute to the development of small settlements – the so-called villages of the future. Use this experience and do not wait for new five-year plans. People should strive to work there!” the President addressed those present.

The Head of State said the inclusion of the military service period into the term of mandatory work after graduation is another factor of the personnel loss. “In addition to administrative measures, each farm should have its own additional personnel retention system. Think about how to attract and retain young people – from housing to exemplary working conditions, cultural sphere, healthcare in rural areas. If we do not solve the problem of personnel in agriculture, there will be no economy," Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
