Shpakovsky explains why FM to voice Lukashenko's position at Board of Peace

12 February, 14:07
MP Aleksandr Shpakovsky commented on the news that Belarus’ Foreign Minister will be representing Belarus at the first Board of Peace meeting in his talk with Alfa Radio

Earlier, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko received an invitation to the meeting. However, Natalya Eismont, Press Secretary of the Belarusian leader, said ‘we received it too late, and the President's schedule for this period had already been planned’. Thus, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, who is deeply involved in Belarus’ membership in the Board of Peace and other matters concerning the situation in the region and Belarus-US relations, will be representing the country in Washington.

“Our opponents make a fuss about anything and everything, as they currently have no influence on the media landscape. Now, their strategy is to react to every decision of the state authorities. They’re acting depending on the situation, without any idea of what’s happening in our country. They aren’t informed well. On the bright side, many decisions come as a surprise to them. They try to either join in or discredit them in some way. In the case with the President being invited to the Board of Peace meeting, they, of course, argue that it’s nothing, it’s bad and so on. They claim that we ourselves are so eager to join this organisation just to show something to the almighty Americans,” Aleksandr Shpakovsky stated.

“Now, when the Belarusian leader made a decision to continue his work as planned, with the Foreign Minister representing Belarus, our opponents are trying to second guess, claiming Aleksandr Lukashenko isn’t going because he is not expected there, and coming up with many other theories. The truth is that this is all nonsense and rumour spread by incompetent people. I have to admit that the West is spending a lot of money on propaganda. Even though they don't have anything new to say, they're working hard to steer the audience further away from the truth and lead them into some kind of information trap or dead end,” the member of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly noted.

“What will change if our country isn’t represented at the Board of Peace meeting by the President himself? Who’s the Minister of Foreign Affairs? A person authorised by the Head of State to express Belarus' position. Who shapes Belarus' position? The President. That is why Maxim Ryzhenkov will be expressing the Head of State’s viewpoint at the Board of Peace meeting. Here's the thing: right now, Belarus views the Board of Peace as a promising platform for gaining information and conveying its own position. And the fact that some political has-beens in Warsaw or Berlin are making some comments on this or that... Well, people will find out what their comments really worth — not a red cent,” the MP stated.
