Belarusian consular services across Europe issued about 140,000 visas in H1 2014, notes Deputy Foreign Minister Yelena Kupchina at meeting of Belarusian foreign mission consular workers of the European region

Ms. Kupchina noted that, between January and June 2014, Belarusian consular agencies in Europe provided help to more than 600 Belarusian citizens and collected about $13m in consular fees. The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Belarusian foreign missions, and especially consular services, are focused on protecting the interests of Belarusian individuals and businesses abroad. She believes that a flexible approach is needed in resolving visa issues.  Ms. Kupchina praised the positive dynamics of ministerial consultations on consular issues, which have helped address bilateral issues. Participants analysed the efforts of Belarusian consular agencies in protecting the rights and legal interests of Belarusian citizens abroad. Workers at consular institutions met with Government officials and representatives of other Belarusian organisations in order to enhance a common approach and develop recommendations on improving work in this field.
