National football team of Belarus falls to 106th place in FIFA rankings

The national football team of Belarus has fallen from 89th to 106th place in the updated International Federation of Association Football rankings, having 301 points. Since its previous FIFA ranking, the squad has suffered home defeat from Ukraine (0:2) and Slovakia (1:3) during qualifying matches for the 2016 European Championship.

The Belarusian team is in group C, ranked behind most of its rivals: placed 10th is Spain (1,119 points), 19th is Ukraine (920), 24th is Slovakia (861), 99th is Macedonia (340), and 126th is Luxembourg (233). Belarus’ next match is scheduled for November 15th, in Spain. A friendly match against Mexico (ranked 17th) is to take place on November 18th in Borisov, ending the football year for the national team.

The October rankings are headed by world champion Germany (1,669), with Argentina second (1,565) and Colombia third (1,420). The Netherlands, which came third in the recent Brazilian World Championship, has fallen from 4th to 5th position (1,375). Their geographical neighbours, the Belgians (1,388) have moved up to 4th place. Among former USSR teams, Ukraine leads, with the Russian squad in 30th place (792).
