Level of Mutual Understanding

At the meeting with the Belarusian delegation in Yerevan, President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan noted the effectiveness of the two countries’ bilateral cooperation in the military sphere. He also expressed his assurance of further fruitful cooperation of the two countries’ defence departments
In his turn, the head of the Belarusian delegation Minister of Defence, general-colonel Leonid Maltsev stressed that “there is an absolute mutual understanding between Armenian and Belarusian partners both in bilateral military relations and in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)”. According to him, the defence departments, besides good potential for cooperation, have experience that enables them to carry on their mutually beneficial interaction in the future.

In the course of negotiations the parties discussed the current Belarus and Armenia’s bilateral relations in the military technical sphere and the prospects of their intensifying.

Leonid Maltsev also had a meeting with Secretary of the National Security Council under the auspices of President of Armenia, Minister of Defence Serge Sarkisyan. At the meeting they discussed the topical issues of military technical cooperation.

As a result of the talks, Leonid Maltsev and Serge Sarkisyan signed a Plan of Bilateral Cooperation between the Defence Ministries of Belarus and Armenia for 2006.

Within the framework of the visit the Belarusian delegation also visited the museum-institute of early manuscripts "Matenadaran", Vazghen Sarkisyan War Institute and met with the Catholicos of All Armenians Gareghin II.
