The foreign trade conflict between Belarus and Ukraine has every chance to end peacefully

In order to resolve the situation, Belarus has taken the first step by cancelling the earlier introduced temporary licensing of deliveries of cement, glass and beer, as well as of some types of alimentary and confectionery products from outside of the single customs territory of the Customs Union.

Two weeks ago, as ‘appropriate measures’, our southern neighbor introduced special duties on the import of some goods produced in Belarus. Sweets, milk products, chemical fertilisers and refrigerators produced by our enterprises were all restricted. But in the MFA, they didn’t accept the decisions of the Ukrainian Inter-Departmental Commission on International Trade, explaining that the restrictions introduced by our country ‘hadn’t been directed particularly towards Ukrainian brewers and confectioners’.

“The licensing of the import of specific goods in Belarus was extended to an uncertain circle of countries, and not exceptionally against Ukraine,” said Dmitry Mironchik, Head of Information Administration, and Press Secretary of the MFA.

Currently Belarus has cancelled all restrictions for countries included in the free trade zone as a demonstration of good neighbourliness.
