Master Irina Yaskevich from Lyuban District revives the weaving of bast shoes

Master Irina Yaskevich from the Lyuban District found some local residents, who remembered the technology of weaving bast shoes from natural bast and revived the process in the Lyuban District.

Two years ago, under the auspices of Irina Yaskevich, in the Kommuna settlement a Lapotochek creative laboratory was founded. It aims at the keeping of cultural heritage of the Lyuban District. Currently about 20 percent of pupils from Lapotochek are skilfully weaving bast shoes using some old technologies and keeping Belarusian traditions alive.

Products from natural bast are in high demand, especially by tourists, who visit Belarus.
