A public re-enactment of the terrible battles that occurred during the First Word War was performed by members of military-historical clubs and uniform public associations which specialise in the WWI period.

The city was chosen as the venue for this remembrance event for a specific reason — from September, 1915 to February, 1918 the line of the Russian-German front passed right through Smorgon. The city did not surrender to the enemy during those 810 days, and tens of thousands of soldiers and officers died here.
