DiCaprio finally wins Best Actor, and Spotlight scoops Best Picture

Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar award for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant
The long-awaited win was surely a surreal moment for the actor, who received a standing ovation while making his way towards the stage. To date, DiCaprio, 41, has been nominated six times for an Oscar. The Revenant is an American survival drama directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. “The Revenant was a product of the tireless efforts of an unbelievable crew,” DiCaprio said at the 2016 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. DiCaprio, a long-time environmental activist, also spoke about the dangers of global warming. “Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship with the natural world,” he said. “Climate change is real: it’s happening right now, it is a most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters but who speak for all of humanity. ... Let us not take this planet for granted; I do not take tonight for granted.” DiCaprio beat out Matt Damon (The Martian), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl). The Revenant wins three Oscars.
