Cyclists from the continental Minsk cycling club team ready to open the competition programme of 2016 — participating in a major international cycling event in Italy.
After several weeks of training on the Minsk-Arena cycling track, all team members went to the Apennines for a training session in physical preparation. Led by Ruslan Podgorny, the nine sportsmen are travelling to Italy: Oleg Agievich, Stanislav Bozhkov, Anton Ivashkin, Konstantin Klimenkov, Anton Muzychkin, Alexey Peshkun, Sergey Popok and Roman Romanov.
Minsk’s cyclists will stay at Toscana’s Riotorto. The region is known for its thermal springs, which make it several degrees warmer there than in other regions, enabling the sportsmen to train more fruitfully. The roads are also appropriate for winter training sessions, their heights vary from 2,000 to 3,000 metres, with no long mountain roads. This makes it possible to produce the greatest effect from training.
On February 7th, the area will host a.1 Costa degli Etruschi cycling race, with the Belarusian team participating. This year, the event will be impressive, featuring at least 20 teams: The Lampre-Merida World Tour team, five pro-continental teams, 13 continental teams and the teams of Italy and Nigeria. The Minskers will get a good chance to show their mettle in the company of the elite teams.
