The scientists of Forestry Institute of the Academy of Sciences have worked out a new method of planting sustainable pine-birch forests that is effective both on lands that have been used for agricultural purposes and lands subjected to radioactive
contamination.

The essence of the method is in chequerwise planting of pines and birches in 20-25-row monogenetic sections (on plots of 30х50 metres). The pines planted among birch sections are less damaged by pine fungus due to the biological ability of birches to reduce pathogenicity of their environment.
