Belarus to celebrate 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia

The government is actively helping the Belarusian Orthodox Church in organizing events to 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia

The country was created by the Republican Organizing Committee for the celebration of an important historical date, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Tozik and the plan was approved. International scientific-practical conference «The Baptism of Russia in the fate of the people of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine: the choice of civilized way», organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Belarusian Exarchate was the first significant event in a series of affairs and celebrations to commemorate the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia. And, according to Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities Sciences and Arts National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kovalenya, has already received an adequate assessment in the scientific, religious and social circles.

But most important, the culminating event of the holiday is still to come. July 29 at the ancient ruins of the Minsk Site of ancient castle liturgy will be held in the open air, headed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill. Such an event occurs for the first time in the history of Belarus.

– All services of Ekzarhat now in a tense preparation of this visit, – the managing director of Belarusian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Novogrudskiy and Lida Guriy said. – We hope that all will go well, and festival will long be remembered by our compatriots by its magnificence.

Speaking about the importance of baptism, Bishop Guriy noted that the adoption of Christianity is an important milestone in the history not only of our people: «Not only we, but many people remember the dates of their baptism. It is not surprising, because, as is said in ancient times Virgil, «choosing a religion, we choose our destiny».

– As you know, in honor of celebration of 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia in our capital city will hold a series of events. In their organization the state is actively helping to the Belarusian Orthodox Church, – the Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs of Belarus Leonid Gulyako said.

In Minsk during the holiday is expected to more than 80 archbishops and about 50 000 pilgrims from the Dioceses of our country and neighboring countries.
