The Deputy Director for Scientific-Methodical Work at BSU’s Fundamental Library, Alla Butina, tells us, “This exhibition is the first such joint work by the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood and the Fundamental Library of the Belarusian State University. We’re presenting rare, pocket-sized editions from the war years, as would have been carried by soldiers. Printed on cheap, grey paper, in simple covers, without illustrations, these books were printed in inhumane conditions but helped people retain their fighting spirit.”
Also on show are contemporary publications commemorating the Great Patriotic War, alongside medals and orders, commemorative and jubilee coins, postcards, stamps and envelopes: from the National Historical Museum of Belarus and the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood.
