On meeting the DP World Chairman of the Board and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Alexander Lukashenko underlined the importance of the visit of one of the world’s most influential businessmen to Belarus. “I think the arrival of the person who knows virtually everything about logistics in the world, in Minsk, is not accidental,” noted the President. “You understand perfectly well that, located in the centre of Europe, particularly at present, Belarus is an important transit link between the West and the East, the North and the South. It will be important during your visit for us to try to match Belarus’ interests and those of your company. We have ideas while you have the capability. I would like this to result in new companies, including in Belarus, and new jobs. It would be a good sign for our people at this time.”

The Head of State noted that if the UAE corporation decided to invest in Belarus, it would be granted the most favourable conditions. The negotiations also tackled investments and opportunities for the implementation of joint projects. The DP World Corporation is part of the Holding Company, Dubai World, which is owned by the government of the Emirate of Dubai. The corporation owns 77 cargo terminals in 40 countries. Belarus plays an important role in developing the transport system in Europe, noted Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The foreign guest noted that he had arrived in Minsk with the aim of considering the opportunities for establishing bilateral collaboration. According to him, Belarus is a very attractive country from a logistics point of view, including as an EAEU member.

“I’d like to mention the high level of development of transport and logistics system in Belarus. We’ve come to understand the importance of Belarus as part of the European transport system,” underlined Sultan Ahmed. “Belarus is a very beautiful and safe country,” he added.

The programme of the UAE delegation visit to Belarus was very intensive since the guests intended to take a close look at the operation of logistics hubs in Belarus.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem was told that Belarus has a well-developed modern infrastructure. It’s necessary to develop the country’s logistics system in response to global trends in international trade and the country’s integration with international freight traffic. The work to create and improve the efficiency of the logistics infrastructure in Belarus in 2008-2015 has been carried out in line with the relevant government programme. In the period mentioned, 19 logistics hubs were established, with their total warehouse area exceeding 390,000 square metres. Over Br6.7 trillion was spent to implement the measures. Over 5,000 jobs were created. Most of the logistics hubs in Belarus were created by raising foreign investments and by spending proprietary resources from the private sector. Seven logistics hubs are owned by the state or have a state-owned share in the charter capital.
