Battling drug trafficking

Belarusian customs creates strong obstacles to drug smuggling

A drug supply channel from Poland to the Customs Union has been stopped at the Privalka border checkpoint (Grodno Regional Customs Office). 660kg and 253kg of poppy straw were confiscated on the country’s western border, masked under fresh apples and cabbages.

Meanwhile, the smuggling of psychotropic medications has been averted, with a Moldovan resident arrested at Novaya Rudnya border checkpoint (Mozyr Customs Office). He was trying to smuggle in 31 ampoules of especially dangerous psychotropic ‘Diazepam’, travelling from Ukraine by international bus. So far, over 1,400 tonnes of narcotic drugs have been confiscated in the republic, including 940kg by customs offices.
