Basis of policy

What is the place of a country in the diversity of world? Which is it’s policy? Which interests does it defend in its foreign policy? By which criteria is it governed in realization of this policy? Agree, the questions are not vacuous. They were topical yesterday, and they will be of importance tomorrow. Certainly, it is important, when the first face of the state gives answers to such questions. Then they are comprehensive and competent. In February the possibility to hear such answers fell on, perhaps, one of the most demanding categories of listeners — on the youth. When the president Alexander Lukashenko visited a new educational building of the Belarusian State University, he performed before the students and formulated the main conceptual directions of the foreign policy of our country. Understanding of the essence of this policy is necessary for youth community, because here, among the youth, the future politicians are formed, their views, vision of the country and their role to influence its development.

When Alexander Lukashenko performed before the students, he took into account the peculiarity of the audience. He defined the features of the modern world and its contradictions straightforwardly to the utmost, he called the partners of Belarus and those countries, which are not among them to this or that extent. “It is impossible in politics to insulate oneself with an iron curtain”, — this is how the comment to the performance of the President in the BSU is called in our magazine. This name accumulates the vision of the policy, which is required today and is suitable to realias of international relations. Not a dictate, but a dialogue is the core of these relations.

Besides, talking about the place of the country in the modern society, Alexander Lukashenko especially noted, that foreign-policy strategy is based on three fundamental principles: political sovereignty, economical openness and equal partnership relations between the countries. Perhaps, it is relevant to make an accent on the second of the mentioned principle. The tendency to make the national economy more open became, perhaps, one of the most noticeable events lately. The state demonstrates the intention to strengthen investment cooperation and to make the conditions profitable and attractive for the investors. The examples of the fact, that big foreign investors will realize many projects in Belarusian economy, didn’t keep waiting. It was announced about the construction in the capital, unprecedented by the scale — the companies, famous in the world, were openly called. The state sells its assets to a foreign investor in the sphere of mobile communication and sees not only natural profit in this step, but also the possibility of development of the technologies in this field. Or another example in the material of this issue of our magazine. New owners of “Motovelo” brand (Minsk plant on production of motorcycles and bicycles) have already been realizing their plans, which shall cardinally change the situation at the enterprise — to improve its economical and financial situation. “Motovelo ignites” — this is how the publication in the magazine is called. It is worth reminding, that the decision on the sale of shares of OJSC “Motovelo” to a foreign investor has also been undertaken on the highest national level. These and other examples testify on new approaches to economy reformation and development, which really becomes more open and flexible in new conditions.

“Commodity or products shall be desirable”, “Viking” grows muscles” — these are just some names of the materials on economical topic, which are published in the magazine. One of the materials mentioned above is about growing demand for Belarusian export production. The second one is about a big project of the workers in the sphere of transport with participation of railway workers of Belarus, which changes the conception of international cooperation possibilities in the economical segment of the national railways, which has earlier been considered rather conservative.

The students of the first courses know, that economy is a basis. Perhaps, now it needs ambitious ideas of young energetic people. They are required here. The feeling and understanding of this fact on the scale of the country, to be exact, on a national scale — is a basis of policy.
