Belarus improves its position in Ookla Netindex world ranking for Internet access


The Ookla Netindex — the world leader in testing broadband Internet and web-applications of network diagnostics — believes that the Internet in Belarus has become cheaper and more available. The Value Index for broadband access in Belarus has risen 26 positions since last year, taking 33rd place ($3.61 per Mbps) ahead of Switzerland ($3.76 per Mbps), Norway ($3.89 per Mbps), Greece ($3.96 per Mbps), Turkey ($4.39 per Mbps), Italy ($5.98 per Mbps), Spain ($6.31 per Mbps), France ($6.69 per Mbps), Australia ($8.29 per Mbps), and the Philippines ($21 per Mbps). The Internet is 1.85 times cheaper in Belarus than in France, 2.8 times cheaper than in Ireland, and 4.58 times cheaper than in Indonesia. In the Philippines, the average monthly cost of Internet access (with a speed of 1 Mbps) is almost 6 times higher than in Belarus.

On the Quality Index, Belarus is among the top 20 countries worldwide, ahead of the Czech Republic (14th place), Finland (15th), Canada (16th), Germany (17th) and Spain (20th).
