Belarus to join the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)
The intergovernmental organisation has agreed Belarus’ membership during a regular meeting in Rome and an agreement on the FAO’s financial aid to Belarusian agriculture has been made. Modern technology can enable Belarus to increase its competitiveness and improve the quality of its crops. It will then be enable to satisfy domestic demand and conquer the CIS market.

FAO funding should enable us to raise agricultural levels to meet EU standards; Belarus will then be able to expand into the Central and Eastern European markets. According to some estimates, Belarus will profit considerably from this — to the tune of several dozens of millions of dollars. Similar programmes are being implemented in Latvia and Slovakia.
