Belarus goes to highest position worldwide for number of young people with higher education
The National Statistical Committee notes that, in Belarus, the number of students towards the number of population in a particular age group stands at 91.5 percent.
Belarus is only surpassed by the Republic of Korea, with 98.4 percent, the USA — 94.3 percent, and Finland — 93.7 percent.
For the 2013/2014 school year, Belarus’ number of students per 10,000 people was the highest across the CIS: 417 (Russia — 394, Kyrgyzstan — 391, Ukraine — 380).
Almost 20 percent of young men in our Republic are students. At the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year, there were 54 institutes of higher education, teaching 395,000 students and about 8,000 postgraduates, including 14,000 residents of foreign countries. Meanwhile, there are 14 female students for every ten men.
A third of students study free of charge, and 57 percent of full-time students receive state funding at state institutes of higher education. About half of all students study part-time.
