Belarusian Ambassador to France and Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO, Pavel Latushko, visits MINES ParisTech and its museum and university, to see archive materials connected with world famous Belarus-born Ignacy Domeyko
During his visit, Mr. Latushko held talks with the Vice President of the university, Cédric Denis-Rémis, and the curator of the Mineralogy Museum, Didier Nectoux. The Belarusian diplomat told them about activities being conducted in Belarus to preserve the legacy of Ignacy Domeyko; the 200th anniversary of his birth is being celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO.
Representatives of the French university were proud to say that Ignacy Domeyko was their student between 1834 and 1837.
Mr. Latushko received originals of archive materials, as well as personal letters and minerals donated to MINES ParisTech by Domeyko, and toured the Mineralogy Museum, which has an example of ‘Dameikit’ mineral, named after Ignacy Domeyko.
Belarus is to organise an exhibition of archive materials, personal letters and minerals gathered by Ignacy Domeyko, in liaison with the French museum. Meanwhile, further ties are planned between the Belarusian State University’s Geography Department and MINES ParisTech.
