Belarusian athletes claim no medals yet at IAAF World Indoor Championships, held in American Portland
Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova fails to jump well
The major medal hope and leaThe major medal hope and leader of the team, Alina Talay, managed to qualify for the 60m hurdles finals, showing her best time of the season — 7.96 seconds. Alas, a mistake in the final race left her with a time of 8 seconds, finishing sixth.
Long jumper Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova didn’t perform well either. All through her qualification attempts, she preserved a chance of entering the final eight but was pushed into 9th place by German Alexandra Wester at last, who managed to jump 6.76m.
In total, the forum brought together six Belarusian athletes. Alena Dubitskaya finished 9th in shot putting while Belarus’ champion in triple jumping, Irina Vaskovskaya, came only 13th. In running disciplines Svetlana Kudelich covered 3,000m within 9 minutes 17.45 seconds and was placed 11th while Maxim Lynsha was ranked 20th.
While summing up the results of performances in Portland, head coach of the Belarusian national track-and-field team, Igor Sivodedov, noted that though the results of his trainees failed to be outstanding they weren’t disastrous.”I wouldn’t like to make hasty conclusions and there is no need to be disappointed with of the performance at the World Championships in Portland. Everyone understands well that the Olympic Games are the major start of this year, so we need to continue training and polishing technical moments in order to be in a higher degree of readiness in summer,” he said.
